Fall 2013 Mix CD Swap

Over on the BPAL forum, we recently had the next round of the Mix CD swap. I missed Round 4, so I was excited when the sign ups opened for this round. I always find a couple of new artists that I like which helps me expand my own music collection. I feel that my collection is rather limited though it seems I'm always listening to something; this is probably because I prefer to buy CDs rather than MP3s but rarely buy anything new. It also probably doesn't help that I mostly keep up with more Asian artists rather than American artists.

For this swap, we usually are split into groups of 3 or 4. I was in a group of 3 and got 3 CDs in total.

I really liked the first mix - except for for Beats Antique, I don't know any of the artists though some sound familiar. Bold means favorite tracks.
  1. Fischerspooner - Money Can't Dance
  2. John Grant - Black Belt
  3. The Faint - Forever growing Centipedes
  4. Yolanda Be Cool - We No Speak Americano
  5. Mint Royale - Singin' in the Rain
  6. Parov Stelar - Catgroove
  7. Little Boots - New in Town
  8. Boards of Canada - Finity
  9. Universal Hall Pass - Dragonfly
  10. Beats Antique - Revival
  11. Trentemoller - Even Though You're with Another Girl
  12. She Wants Revenge - Tear You Apart
The second (mixed by the same as the first) is really interesting, as my reaction to some songs were 'WTF is going on' (like the first track on this mix).
  1. Das Racist - Combination Pizza Hut + Taco Bell
  2. The Lonely Island - I Run NY
  3. Freezepop - Do You Like My Wang?
  4. Max Raabe und das Palast Orcheser - Sex Bomb
  5. The Ukulel Orchestra of Great Britain - Le Freak
  6. The Captain Howdy - Always Something There
  7. The Puppini Sisters - Tu Volo Fa L'Americano
  8. White Town - Your Woman
  9. Al Bowlly - My Woman
  10. Harry Nilsson - Coconut
  11. Moon Hooch - Number 9
  12. Sigu Ros - Svefn-G-Englar (sped up 300%)
  13. McFrontalot - Stoop Sale
  14. Gin and Juice (soothing spoken word)
The other member of my group actually lives in the UK so I just got that CD yesterday. There's a bit of Kpop at the beginning of the CD, but the majority of the it contains new artists for me.
  1. DOLL$BOXX - Tkae My Chance
  2. Super Junior - Don't Don
  3. Epsilon Minus - Futurepop Muzik
  4. Donghae + Eunhyuk - Oppa, Oppa
  5. Brown Eyed Girls - Abracadadra
  6. Girls' Generation - Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)
  7. September - Cry For You
  8. DT8 feat. Roxanne Wilde - Destination
  9. Ayria - Red Shift
  10. Ambra Red - Beauty 606
  11. Eisley - Invasion
  12. Howling Bells - Into the Chaos
  13. Kyla La Grange - Been Better
  14. Tori Amos - Precious Things (live)
  15. Hannah Fury - Where the Wounds Are
  16. Bat For Lashes - Lumen
  17. Gary Numan - Down in the Park (piano version)
And here is what I sent out. I tend to make mixes made up of my favorite songs or favorite artists.
  1. Brian Setzer - One More Night with You
  2. Caravan - Dragons
  3. Robbie Williams - It's De-Lovely
  4. The Hush Sound - Wine Red
  5. Escala - Finding Beauty
  6. Oren Lavie - The Opposite Side of the Sea
  7. Marian Call - Ina Flew the Coop
  8. Emilie Autumn - Girls! Girls! Girls!
  9. Joe Hisashi - The Sixth Station
  10. Rob Dougan - I'm Not Driving Anymore
  11. Dir en Grey - Ware, Yami Tote...
  12. Acid Black Cherry - Fallin' Angel
  13. Seatbelts - Gotta Knock a Little Harder
  14. Man Man - Poor Jackie
  15. 2NE1 - Blackjack Pride (Drokas Megamix)
What are some kinds of music you like to listen to?

  1. What a cool and interesting idea to make CDs and swap them! My music collection is a mix of all things. I don't like rap or heavy metal and I mostly don't like mainstream stuff. But I am a sucker for harmonies and girl voices that sound different (think Regina Spektor).

    1. I need to listen to more of Regina Spektor - I've liked the few songs of of her's that I've heard, but haven't actually listened to a full album. I think you would really like Marian Call if you haven't listened to any of her stuff already.
